Fast and Slow Phone Charging

Everyone wants a phone that merely lasts all day of moderate to high use without draining the battery. Until that magic day might happen, you may be able to charge your phone faster.

Take a magnifying glass or use your phone as a 99 cent magnifying glass by turning on the camera and zooming in--and inspect the charger(s) you have for your phone.

Look for the Amperage of the charger. You'll see numbers like 0.7A, 1.0A, 2A, 2.0A, etc.

These days, most better phones come with a 2 Amp charger. Early iPhones used a 0.7A charger. A 1 Amp charger will take forever to charge a phone designed for 2A charging. However, most cheap aftermarket chargers are 1 Amp or less.

Look very carefully at the specs on the packaging for any plug-in or car charger you buy, as well as for external batteries. If you chose a higher powered charger you will find it charges faster. Faster charging will shorten the life of the battery by some degree, so make the trade-off calculation yourself.

Believe it or not, the cable affects charge time too.  About half of charging cables I tested support 2 Amp charging. About half don't. Yet none advertise the fact on their packaging. So you could have a great 2 Amp charger but notice no faster charging than when you used a 1 Amp charger. Why? It's the cable. Get a different one and pay more than $10 or so for it. The cheap ones won't give you more than 1 Amp, but many of the more expensive ones do.
