Windows XP and Your Security
Windows XP was hailed for years as a 'bulletproof' system that was quite reliable. In fact, millions of old computers still run it today.
However, Microsoft ceased issuing security updates for XP and all older versions of Windows a long time ago.
That means that hackers can exploit later-discovered weaknesses in XP to plant viruses and steal your data. Antiviruses and firewalls are good defenses, but they can't defend against security vulnerabilities in the operating system itself.
The only safe solution is to shed a tear for your trusty XP computer and get a new one, or use it off the internet. An old computer is not worth the time and expense to buy and install a new version of Windows.
It is possible some old favorite computer programs won't work on new versions of Windows, so you can keep them going by keeping your XP computer, as long as you don't connect to the internet at all.
