URGENT: You may have read about the "ransomware" terrorist computer virus. It IS as bad as described: you will lose all your files, and one infected computer can infect every other computer in a network. If you have a Windows 7, 8, 10 computer or recent Microsoft server, you are protected IF your computer is set to automatically install security updates.
CHECK NOW: (Settings/Control Panel, Security/Updates. Check to make sure automatic updates is active. Millions of computers were attacked this week because they were not set to automatically install updates.
DO NOT EVER click on attachments in emails unless you know who sent it and are expecting an attachment. Call to make sure, because a virus might send the virus to you from an infected friend's. The moment you click on an evil attachment, it will infect your computer.
BACKUP everything you care about. NOW. Buy an external backup drive ($50-$100), a USB drive, or a "cloud" backup service or Dropbox/Google Drive, etc.
IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS XP: Download this 'patch.' Your computer will not be automatically updated, you must do it yourself. Best to unplug any XP computer from the web and use just as a workstation, but this patch will help protect you.
