Sorting and Cleaning Email

If you have thousands of emails you want to clean out, there's an easier way to do it than go through emails one-by-one.

Your emails probably are listed chronologically, with the most recent first.  Spam, mailing list emails, and valuable messages are all mixed together.

At the top of your list of emails are usually column headers for Date, Subject, From/Sender, Size, etc.  In Outlook and some other email programs, you can add columns for missing columns such as size.

Therefore, just click on the column header for From, and your email will get sorted by sender.  You'll find spam sometimes has no sender listed, and those will be grouped together.  Emails from friends and business contacts that you need will also be grouped together. You can often drag or otherwise move those to a new folder if you want.

After you have deleted unwanted emails by Sender, then click on Size.  You'll see large attachments, and particularly if you need to free up inbox space, you'll see the ones that are taking up the most room.

Then click on Subject.  That sorting will group together many spam topics for ease of deleting.

Cleaning up thousands of emails can take a lot of time. By using the sorting capabilities of your email program, you can speed up the process considerably.
